Mesoporous Methyl-Functionalized Titanosilicate Produced by Aerosol Process for the Catalytic Epoxidation of Olefins

Titanosilicates (Ti-SiO2) are well-known catalysts for the epoxidation of olefins. Isolated Ti inserted in silica framework tetrahedral coordination active species. Recently, adjusting hydrophobic/hydrophilic balance such catalysts’ surfaces has appeared as a promising tool to further boost their performance. However, via one-pot classical sol-gel generally leads decrease dispersion and/or collapse pore network. To overcome this limitation, hydrophobic mesoporous Ti-SiO2 were here synthesized by aerosol-assisted sol–gel, which allowed simultaneous control loading, degree methyl-functionalization, and textural properties. Methyl-functionalization was achieved partial substitution tetraethoxy silane (TEOS) methyltriethoxy (MTES) different ratios. Solid-state 29Si-NMR, FTIR, TGA, vapor-phase water adsorption showed that methyl moieties effectively incorporated, conferring property catalysts. ICP-AES, DRUV, XPS, N2 physisorption demonstrated properties both successfully preserved upon incorporation moieties. In cyclooctene with tert-butyl hydroperoxide oxidant, higher catalytic performance than pristine prepared without MTES. addition disentangling positive effect on performance, contribution highlights advantages aerosol procedure synthesize functionalized very high sites.

A new type of defect-less, layered organo-titanosilicate is synthesized using a simple, template-free, evaporation-induced self-assembly process.
